About cold spark machines
How it works
A cold spark machine heats a metal powder and blows it out as a fountain of sparks. There is no pyrotechnic composition inside: the units run on mains power and DMX. The sparks are hot particles that cool down quickly, which is why the units can stand closer to people than fireworks — but never touch them.
Which unit
Floor fountains such as the Sparkular, Sparkular II and Magic FX Sparxtar; higher jets such as the Sparkular Jet and Jet II; the Sparkular Fall for the truss; the Sparkular Waver, which tilts during the effect; and the handheld Sparkular Blaster.
What you need
Each unit runs on its own powder, and the grade sets the effect height. The Showven Sparkular units only run with an RFID card that adds run time per bag of powder, so order the powder together with the units: it is in consumables. For control you need a DMX controller from control gear.
Safety
Keep the manufacturer’s safety radius from the product sheet, keep the floor under the fall-out free of carpet and anything flammable, and agree with the venue on smoke detection before the show. Using them indoors? Read cold spark indoors: what you need.

Do I need a permit for a cold spark machine?
A cold spark machine is not a pyrotechnic article, but venues and local authorities can set their own conditions. Ask the venue’s safety officer early.
